Abstract
Humans spend most of their time indoors, this means that the indoor air quality needs to be of high standard. The material around the buildings we live and work in is not always harmless, in fact it can contain materials that are dangerous for humans when emitted in a large amount. This research paper aims to explore building materials as a source of indoor air pollution and the effect it can cause for the overall human health. The paper investigates different aspects of indoor pollution and present modern solutions and statistics concerning the occurring health problem. This paper uses scientific articles, published books and literature to analyze and review. The goals of this research is to analyze the main pollutants that are emitted by building materials and investigate how humans living and working in the buildings are affected. Volatile Organic compounds and pesticides were shown to have sensory system impairments when exposed in a certain amount indoors. Radon and Asbestos showed to have a significant role in development of lung cancer.
