Abstract
Kangere A. A. 2021.
Bakalaura darbs. Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte. 36 lpp. Darbs sastāv no ievada, 5 daļām,
atkarībā no to darba stāža u.c. faktoriem.
Kangere A.A.2021. Resilience of Midwives Related to Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms. Bachelor thesis. Riga Stradins University. 36 pp. Thesis consists of introduction, 5 chapters, results, recommendations, 3 appendices. 3. fig., 4 tab., sources in Latvian and English. Aim of the study. Determination of resilience factors, posttraumatic stress syndrome factors and their inter-relationship with respect to midwifery staff conditions. Methods. This study is based on quantitative, cross-sectional, comparative and correlation methods of reported data. Research material was collected between 10.03.2021-27.04.2021 from 80 practising midwives in various health centres and hospitals in Latvia, selected on current availability. The study uses three research instruments: demographic analysis; IES-R scale; adult resilience questionnaire conducted electronically. The data obtained was analysed using the IBM SPSS programme to ascertain the resilience factors of midwives and the posttraumatic stress symptom factors with respect to years of service and other relevant factors. Within the scope of this study, the interdependency of post-traumatic stress syndrome symptoms with resilience factors of participants were investigated. Results and Conclusion. This study shows that there exists a negative value interconnectedness between the factors of posttraumatic stress symptoms and resilience among midwives. More than half of the midwives of Latvia have displayed clinically significant posttraumatic stress symptoms after repeated experience of traumatic events in the course of their daily duties. Within the symptom group of intrusive memories, years of service is a relevant factor. The study reveals that the level of resilience factors of midwives is relatively high. The most significant resilience factors among midwives are social support, family support, perception of future and perception of self. The lesser resilience factors include personal structure and social competence. Years of service do not significantly affect the resilience of midwives. Practical application of the obtained results. This study shows that posttraumatic stress is a sufficiently serious and widespread problem in midwifery to warrant the introduction of support measures so as to lessen its negative effects on the mental health of midwives. The reduction of posttraumatic stress symptoms depends on the development of resilience factors, especially those that lower the indicators of posttraumatic stress: the perception of self and planned future.
