Abstract
Metodes: Pēc autoru Joseph Lam, Stephen Lee, Xiuli Tong pētījuma Parents’ and Students’ Perceptions of Telepractice Services for Speech-Language Therapy During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Survey Study tulkotas un pielāgotas aptaujas tika aptaujāti vecāki un sākumskolas vecuma bērni. Respondentu aptaujāšana notika no 1. marta līdz 1. aprīlim.
Title: Telepractice in speech and language therapy during the Covid-19 pandemic: assessment of parents and students. Aim: To find out the satisfaction of parents and school-age children with distance speech and language therapy and how distance therapy is evaluated in comparison with face-to-face therapy. Methods: Parents and school-age children were interviewed after a study by Parents ’and Students’ Perceptions of Telepractice Services for Speech-Language Therapy during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Survey Study, conducted by Joseph Lam and Stephen Lee. Respondents were interviewed from 1 March to 1 April. The questionnaire was sent electronically to 84 primary schools registered in the register of Latvian educational institutions and published in the groups of the social network “Facebook” - the Latvian Association of Speech Therapists. After data collection, the results were summarized, data analysis was performed, and conclusions were drawn. Data were collected using MS Excel 365 and IBM SPSS Statistics 27. Results: Answers were received from 47 respondents - 28 (59.6%) parents and 19 (40.4%) school-age children. Parents and students have indicated that the student has enjoyed distance learning (parents: n = 24; 85.7%; children: n = 16; 84.2%). Most respondents agreed that the child understood the purpose of the lessons (parents: n = 18; 64.3%, children: n = 11; 57.9%). Parents (n = 14; 50%) and children (n = 10; 52.6%) agreed that distance learning was effective and improved speech and language skills. Half of the parents n = 14 (50.0%) noted that they were able to assess the child's progress during the lessons. There is a moderately strong correlation between exercise enjoyment and assessed treatment effectiveness (r = 0.552, P <0.01). Despite parental satisfaction with the effectiveness of telemedicine, parents preferred on-the-spot practice, while half of the students surveyed choose distance practice over face-to-face practice. Conclusions: In general, parents and children have a positive attitude towards extracurricular activities. Greater liking for classes is associated with higher subjectively assessed therapeutic efficacy. School-age children and their parents find that distance learning is effective and improves their language and language skills. Despite parental satisfaction with the effectiveness of telemedicine, parents prefer on-the-spot practice, while students choose remote practice.
