Abstract
The literature review summarizes occupational health hazards to the field of interventional cardiology and their effect on the healthcare staff. The review highlights also technologies and techniques to reduce the risk of occupational health hazards to the staff of the laboratory. It summarizes orthopedic and ergonomic hazards including musculoskeletal pain and back pain and their prevalence. Related to the radiation exposure hazards, malignancies and cataracts are more deeply discussed and their prevalence in healthcare staff. The aim of the review is to increase awareness on the occupational health hazards in the interventional cardiology laboratory, not only to the operator but also to the healthcare staff and to show the need to improve preventive methods and increase the education regarding the hazards.
