Abstract
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common but also one of the most aggressive and deadliest central nervous tumours. At the moment, prognosis for patients with GBM remains poor and the survival period is very low due to the high failure rates of standard treatment. Despite the fact, that a vast amount of research has been performed in order to evolve effective therapeutic strategy, the possibilities to improve the quality of life of patients with GBM and their survival period is limited. This literature review gives an overview of potential new therapy approaches, emphasizing hyperthermia, immunotherapy, gene therapy, in situ delivery of chemotherapeutical agents and nanomedicine. Moreover, it describes the obstacles to effective treatment of GBM.
