Abstract
Asbestos is the most common cause of occupational malignancies, more commonly lung cancer and mesothelioma, and there are several prevention strategies that can be implemented on a national and international level. In this literature review, different studies were combined to conclude that asbestos exposure contributes to developing malignancies, mainly lung cancer and mesothelioma, and that the most effective preventative measure is banning the use of asbestos in industrial work. However, as concluded, since there are still countries using asbestos in their industries, it is important with other preventative strategies such as providing wide spread of information, proper healthcare strategies such as screening, as well as regulations and specialized training for workers who still work with asbestos.
