Abstract
4 no 11 izvēlētajiem kvalitātes indikatoriem, nepārsniedza
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is the second leading cause of death among women worldwide. The incidence of breast cancer is gradually increasing. Since 2006, more than 1000 women in Latvia are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. In 2013, the mortality rate from breast cancer in Latvia was 56.3 per 100,000 women. To promote highquality care for women with breast cancer, the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) has developed 26 quality indicators (QIs) that assess several criteria necessary for improving, standardizing, and comparing breast cancer patient care among hospitals and countries. The aim of the study is to evaluate the EUSOMA quality indicators for surgically treated breast cancer patients at the Breast Disease Center of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital in 2023. Data were collected and evaluated, focusing on 11 out of 26 quality indicators, and a detailed analysis was conducted. The study included 119 patients who underwent surgical treatment at the Breast Disease Center of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital. One diagnostic quality indicator, two general quality indicators, two radiotherapy quality indicators, four surgical treatment quality indicators, and two systemic treatment quality indicators were analyzed. Four out of the 11 selected quality indicators did not exceed the required threshold. To continue the work, it is necessary to identify the reasons why the quality indicator threshold was not reached in four cases and to find solutions to prevent it. It is also necessary to continue the evaluation of EUSOMA quality indicators, which will promote high-quality patient treatment.
