Abstract
Topicality: Football is the most popular sport in the world and its popularity is growing in Latvia as well. A big part of every contact sport are injuries. Lower extremities are injured frequently, especially the ankle joint. Player injuries not only influence teams capability to compete, but also causes problems for the teams economy. Aim of the study: Determine what is the effectiveness of stability exercise programme addition to team training process on the U7, U9 and U11 football player static and dynamic stability of the ankle joint. Methods: Quantitative, experimental research. Research participants are FK “Ķegums” players that are 6 till 11 years old. The inclusion criteria were: at least 6 months of experience in football, fits into the age group and attends at least 2 team practices a week. Exclusion criteria were: serious musculoskeletal system injuries in the patient history or parent refusal to participate in the study. The participants were split into 2 age groups – 6 till 7 and 8 till 11 years old. Each age group was divided into control and research group. The research group got an additional 6 week stability training programme, which consisted of 4 exercises. They were done during team practice. For evaluating dynamic and static stability, the star balance excursion test and single-leg stance test were used. The obstacle course was used as an additional evaluation method. Data was collected just before and right after the 6 week exercise programme. Results: The results of star excursion balance test (SEBT) and single-leg stance test (SLST) showed that the mean results, after completing the exercise programme, have increased. The most significant improvement in the SEBT was in the posterior direction where the 6 till 7 year old group showed an improvement of 15,14 units with the right leg and 24,82 units to the left. The 8 till 11 year old group showed 16,33 unit increase with the right and 18,95 with the left leg. The SLST indicates a higher increase in the results while performing it on the left leg. Conclusion: After the addition of the stability exercise programme in team training, the static and dynamic stability of the ankle joint increased in both research groups.
