Abstract
The topic of the master's thesis is “Relationship between Chronic Stress, Anxiety and Depression symptoms and Functioning among educators working during COVID-19 pandemic”. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between chronic stress and anxiety, depression symptoms and functioning in educators working during Covid-19, and to find out whether there are statistically significant differences in depression, anxiety symptoms and functioning in educators working during Covid-19 with chronic stress above and below the critical limit of T-values. The study involved 57 respondents, aged 26 to 69 years (M = 46,00, SD = 11,12), 55 women (96,5%) and 2 men (3,5%) with 2 to 38 years of experience (M = 17,00, SD = 11,86). The measurements used in the study are a demographic data survey created for the study and the Latvian clinical personality test, Latvian version (Perepjolkina et al., 2020). The results show that more than 63% of the surveyed educators have symptoms of chronic stress, 42% of the surveyed educators have symptoms of depression, and 40% of the surveyed educators have symptoms of anxiety that are above the critical T-values. There are significant correlations between symptoms of chronic stress and depression (r = 0,94; p <0,01), anxiety (r = 0,70; p <0,01) and functioning. Chronic stress levels above the critical T-values shows significantly stronger correlations with symptoms of depression (t=-7,13; p<0,01), anxiety (t=-5,11; p<0,01) and levels of functioning – psychomotor inhibition and impaired functioning of cognitive processes (t=-5,96; p<0,01), energy levels (t = -5,14; p<0,01), problems of attention span (t = -2,56, p < 0,05), communication problems (t =-2,94; p<0,01), except for sleep problems (t=-1,82; p>0,05).
