Abstract

Introduction: To promote timely diagnosis and treatment of HIV in Latvia, it is crucial to ensure an adequate understanding of the importance of HIV screening tests among the population. Purpose of the study: To investigate the experiences and attitudes of the adult population in Latvia towards HIV screening tests. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional comparative study was conducted in Latvia. Results and conclusions: The responses from the participants indicate that only a small proportion of Latvian society regularly undergoes HIV screening tests, and there are still misconceptions regarding the transmission and risks of HIV infection. Medical professionals have a significant influence on people's behaviour concerning HIV testing. However, a large segment of society does not participate in preventive healthcare. Content: The volume of the thesis comprises 54 pages, with 41 sources utilised in its development. The thesis contains 19 images and 3 appendices.
