Abstract
izcelsmes produkti tiek izslēgti no uztura.
Background: The main non-communicable diseases (NCD’s) and obesity, are the modern era’s biggest challenge in health care. It accounts for 71% of all deaths worldwide, despite the large preventive potential found in lifestyle modifications. Objectives: This literature review aims to evaluate and gather the available knowledge on animal products as a source of oncegenes, obesitogenes, diabetogenes and cardiogenes. The task will be to determine the preventive and therapeutic potential they hold when they are excluded from ones’ diet. Hypothesis is as following; “The exclusion of animal products, either partially or completely, will have preventive and therapeutic effects on humans regarding type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers”. Materials and methods: A total of 54 sources was used, including scientific articles, web sources and e-book, to provide with evidence based facts. Conclusion: Exclusion of animal products, and thus relying on a plant based alternative, exhibits many health benefits on the researched topics. However, it is difficult to determine whether the association seen between plant based diets and reduced morbidity/mortality is a result of the actual exclusion of animal products, or due to the increased intake of beneficial substances from plant products, and future research is indeed needed. Further research on longterm effects of a plant based diet is also suggested.
