Abstract

The aim of “Overuse of OTC NSAIDs and its consequences” survey was to describe the risks of overuse of OTC NSAIDs and to evaluate patients NSAIDs use habits. NSAIDs is widely used around the world to reduce pain and inflammation of various origins. The problem of incorrect and excessive use of NSAIDs is very relevant today, as it can cause adverse effects on patients health. Therefore, it is important to understand whether the population of Latvia has a tendency to use NSAIDs incorrectly and excessively, and what the consequences of uncontrolled use may be present. An anonymous patient survey was used for data obtaining, IBM SPSS Statistics program, version 29.0.0.0, was used for data processing. The surwey was completed by 141 respondents, who is currently using NSAIDs. The respondents were representatives of both sexes and different age groups. The results of the study show that the majority of patients use NSAIDs appropriately, but some patients make mistakes that make their use excessive. Patients tend to exceed the recommended single dose of NSAIDs, use an inappropriate dosage form, use NSAIDs in accordance with indications, etc. Also, mens and younger patients were found to be more prone to overuse NSAIDs. Research work includes 10 figures, 28 literature sources and 2 appendices.
