Abstract
Atkarība no narkotikām ir nopietna slimība – to nevar izārstēt dienas laikā.
Research paper: “Factors affecting long – term buprenorphine pharmacotherapy” Drug addiction is a serious illness – it cannot be cured within one day. In Latvia there are a relatively high number of opioid users, but the number of people who have had the opportunity to treat their addiction is one of the lowest ratings in Europe. The aim of the study is to find out what factors affect long-term buprenorphine pharmacotherapy and whether it is possible to correct them. This is a prospective study. Data were obtained from s survey of buprenorphine – treated patients. Experience in other countries shows that the most common factors contributing to early treatment discontinuation are untreated comorbid diagnosis – depression, infectious diseases – and the use of other substances. But among the respondents, these factors did not affect patient’s treatment. Most often the factors that affects therapy are changes in the market of available medicine supply and patient’s lack of awareness of their untreated mental health problems, which can cause problems to follow their therapy correctly. The pharmacist can improve the effectiveness of the treatment by providing the patient with full information about the medication he or she is taking, as well as drawing attention to the patient’s state of health during pharmacy visit. This will make it possible to analyze whether the patient is receiving the right treatment, as well as increase the patient’s will to follow the treatment right. It can help patient to realize that the pharmacist is also a health care specialist who can be entrusted with his questions related to health problems.
