Item Incremental Role of Pathological Personality Traits in the Prediction of Suicidal Ideation in General and Psychiatric Inpatient Sample(2019-08-01) Perepjolkina, Viktorija; Ļubenko, Jeļena; Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Martinsone, Kristine; Stepens, Ainars; Komunikācijas fakultāte; Sabiedrības veselības un sociālās labklājības fakultāte; Militārās medicīnas pētījumu un studiju centrsThe aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of the pathological personality traits in predicting suicidal ideation, especially in combination with other risk factors, such as the level of depression, prior attempts of suicide, low self-esteem, low level of perceived social support and self-esteem-by-social support interaction, both in general and in psychiatric inpatient samples. Data were analysed within two samples: non-clinical general sample (n = 461) and psychiatric inpatient sample (n = 131). Latvian Clinical Personality Inventory (LCPI) was used as the instrument for data collection. LCPI is a comprehensive multi-scale multi-item inventory, which consists of nine clinical scales (including Depression Symptom Scale), 33 pathological personality scales, five functioning scales, and five additional scales, including a Suicidal Ideation Scale, Low Self-esteem Scale and Lack of Perceived Social Support Scale. Results of the hierarchical regression analysis showed that several facet-level pathological personality traits (depressivity, self-harm, dissociation proneness, submissiveness, and suspiciousness) added significant incremental variance to the prediction of suicidal ideation above and beyond the well-known main risk factors of suicidal ideation, such as depression and prior suicide attempt. This effect remained stable even after taking into account additional interpersonal risk factors, such as low self-esteem, low level of perceived social support and self-esteem-by-perceived social support interaction. The incremental effect of personality traits was medium in the psychiatric inpatient sample and small in the general sample. Findings of the study may assist in early screening for persons with suicide risk and for developing prevention programmes in different settings.Item Individual and collective protective responses during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in 10 different countries : Results from the EUCLID online survey(2022-09) Koller, Julia E.; Villinger, Karoline; Lages, Nadine C.; Absetz, Pilvikki; Bamert, Melanie; Branquinho, Cátia; Chaves-Avilés, Lourdes; Dimitropoulou, Panagiota; Fernández-Fernández, Ana Lucía; Gaspar de Matos, Margarida; Griškēviča, Ingūna; Gutiérrez-Doña, Benicio; Hankonen, Nelli; Inauen, Jennifer; Jordanova Peshevska, Dimitrinka; Kassianos, Angelos P.; Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Lavrič, Meta; Mitanovska, Tamara; Neter, Efrat; Poštuvan, Vita; Trups-Kalne, Ingrida; Vargas-Carmiol, Jorge; Schupp, Harald T.; Renner, Britta; Department of Health Psychology and Paedagogy; Psychology LaboratoryBackground: In times of unprecedented infectious disease threats, it is essential to understand how to increase individual protective behaviors and support for collective measures. The present study therefore examines factors associated with individual and collective pathways. Methods: Data was collected through an online survey from 4483 participants (70.8% female, M = 41.2 years) across 10 countries from April 15, 2020 to June 2, 2020 as part of the "EUCLID" project (https://euclid.dbvis.de). Structural equation modeling was used to examine individual and collective pathways across and within countries. Results: Overall, the adoption of individual protective behaviors and support for collective measures were high. Risk perception on the individual level and perceived effectiveness at the collective level were positively associated with both individual protective behaviors and support for collective measures. Furthermore, the model explained considerable variance in individual (40.7%) and collective protective behaviors (40.8%) and was largely replicated across countries. Conclusions: The study extends previous research by demonstrating that individual risk perception and perceived effectiveness of collective measures jointly affect individual protective health behaviors and support for collective measures. These findings highlight the need to jointly consider a variety of behavioral actions against infectious disease threats, acknowledging interactions between individual and collective pathways.Item Klīniskā un veselības psihologa profesionālā darbība veselības aprūpes vidē: aktualitāte, pieredze, izaicinājumi(Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte, 2022) Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Mārtinsone, Kristīne; Freimane, Gunta; Mihailovs, Ivans Jānis; Rīgas Stradiņa universitāteIzdevumā īsi raksturota klīniskā un veselības psihologa profesionālā darbība, akcentējot darbu veselības aprūpē. The aim of this study was to explore attitude factors related to COVID-19 vaccination of unvaccinated hospital employees in Latvia. Data were collected from March to May 2021 among the employees of nine hospitals. Overall, 355 respondents took part in the online survey. The respondents in this group ranged from 19 to 71 years old. The results of the hierarchical multiple regression found that sex, previous influenza vaccination, and psychological parameters, are related to more of an attitude of denial regarding vaccination among unvaccinated hospital employees. In conclusion, our study suggests that respondents without previous influenza vaccination, and having concern about the speed of vaccine production, distrust in recommendations of specialists, belief about not being a risk group, belief that the vaccine does not protect oneself and others, belief that COVID-19 is made up, and vaccines are a threat, are related to a more negative attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination.Item Relationship between psychological resilience and self-care strategies of healthcare professionals during covid-19 pandemic in Latvia(Rēzeknes Tehnoloģiju akadēmija, 2021) Bundzena-Ervika, Aiva; Mārtinsone, Kristīne; Perepjolkina, Viktorija; Ruža, Aleksejs; Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Rancāns, Elmārs; Lubkina, Velta; Mārtinsone, Kristīne; Šneidere, Kristīne; Rīga Stradiņš UniversityAs the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19 continues, health-care professionals (HCP) have been exposed to different hazards, and there is a need to explore psychological resilience in crisis situations, and to give recommendations for its strengthening. The aim of this study was to examine relationship between psychological resilience and self-care strategies in HCP of Latvia, controlling for gender and age during Covid-19 pandemic, and to determine whether the psychological resilience and self-care strategies differ between HCP and professionals in other fields (POF) unrelated to healthcare. Method. The sample consisted of 1723 employees, who during the state of emergency continued to work in their profession; they were divided in two groups - 77 HCP (18 men, 59 women, age M = 46.23 (SD = 14.43)) and 1646 POF (720 men, 926 women, age M = 44.98 (SD = 11.93)) as comparison group. Specific data of national representative cross-sectional online survey (N = 2608), performed in July, 2020, were selected – demographic items, 7 items forming Psychological Resilience Scale and 17 item forming Self–care Strategies Questionnaire (consist of 4 scales: “Spiritual resources”, “Social support”, “Free time activities”, “Time management”). Results. “Time management” was only predictive for Self-care strategy for psychological resilience in both HCP and POF group. Neither age nor gender predicted psychological resilience in HCP group. No statistically significant differences for major variables between HCP and POF were found. Conclusions. The results suggest that performing such Self-care activity as time management can help to promote psychological resilience of the employees regardless of profession. Given the workload of HCP in pandemic, this is an important result. HCP psychological resilience and used self-care strategies during COVID-19 are not different from POF.Item The Relationships between Perfectionism and High Intellectual Abilities(Rēzeknes Tehnoloģiju akadēmija, 2019) Jokste, Inese; Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Lubkina, Velta; Mārtinsone, Kristīne; Šneidere, Kristīne; Rīga Stradiņš UniversitySince the beginning of 1990s, when the first multidimensional concepts of perfectionism were published (see, Frost et al., 1990; Hewitt, & Flett, 1990, 1991) there has been a stable increase in the research of perfectionism and its relationships to wide variety of variables, for example, stress (Smith, Saklofske, Yan, & Sherry, 2017), personality traits (Cruce, Pashak, Handal, Munz, & Gfeller, 2012) coping strategies (Gnilka, McLaulin, Ashby, & Alle, 2017). It has to be noted that perfectionism researchers have turned their attention to both general and clinical populations, as well as specific groups, for example, individuals with high intellectual abilities or gifted individuals (e.g., Kornblum, & Ainely, 2005; Margot, & Rinn, 2016). The paper aims to review the studies focused on relationship between perfectionism and high intellectual abilities, and to see what variables are involved in this relationship. In the first section of the paper concepts and definitions of high intellectual abilities are described. In the second section of the paper perfectionism concepts are described. An in the third section of the paper the relationship between high intellectual abilities and perfectionism is analysed. The results of literature review will serve as theoretical background for studying individuals with high intellectual ability and perfectionistic personality traits.Item A scoping review of longitudinal studies of athlete burnout(2025-02-14) Dišlere, Beate Evelīna; Mārtinsone, Kristīne; Koļesņikova, Jeļena; Department of Health Psychology and Paedagogy; Psychology LaboratoryINTRODUCTION: Prior research has shown that increasing training and competition loads, along with associated stressors, can negatively impact athletes' mental health and contribute to burnout. While athlete burnout can be associated with various negative sports-related consequences, such as withdrawal from sports or injuries. Although most studies on athlete burnout employ cross-sectional designs, longitudinal approaches could provide valuable insights into athlete burnout changes over time and potential causal relationships between variables and burnout. Therefore, this study aims to systematically examine longitudinal design studies to offer a comprehensive methodological, conceptual, and practical overview of athlete burnout and its associated factors. METHODS: Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, this review explores what factors influence changes in burnout levels among athletes throughout a sports season. Therefore, studies were selected that examined athlete burnout across both genders, all age groups, and various sport types, using repeated measurements. Published articles from 2014 to 2024 were collected. Eligible studies were identified through three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. RESULTS: A total of 32 studies were analyzed. Quantitative mapping highlights study demographics, measurement approaches, and procedures, while qualitative mapping identifies 26 factors categorized as risk, protective, and factors influenced by burnout. The review highlights the use of tools like the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire and identifies optimal data collection intervals for tracking burnout dynamics. CONCLUSION: This scoping review offers insights into the multidimensional and nonlinear nature of athlete burnout, emphasizing its development through longitudinal studies and the importance of monitoring specific dimensions. The findings revealed various athlete burnout influencing personal and sport-environmental factors, including risk factors like perfectionistic concerns and negative social interaction, protective factors such as resilience-related skills and relatedness, and social support. The study emphasizes the importance of early detection and longitudinal monitoring to prevent burnout and mitigate its impact on athletes' mental health and performance. Further research is needed to explore additional risk and protective factors to develop effective interventions aimed at reducing the risk of burnout in athletes.
